In order for your website get higher ranking positions in search engines, it must be rich in content above all. If you don’t know what SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is, then check out SEO and META Information for more help and for terms used in this article.
Keywords
Search Engine Optimization is exactly what you’d think it is; it’s the optimization of your web pages for higher rankings on search engine results. In other words, the better optimized your website is, the higher up your pages will show when someone makes a search query in a search engine. Optimizing your website doesn’t just mean adding “title” and “description” tags (though that is very important…). It also means making sure that your page content is rich in information and keywords.
It is extremely essential that you don’t just put keywords into your pages just to get higher rankings. Placing keywords on pages that don’t relate is only going to lower your rankings. If you create content people want and can use, then keywords should already be in your content. All you should have to do is make sure that they are actually there and that they are accurate.
Example
An example of what we’re talking about is this webpage that you are currently browsing. Keywords are not just in META tags; they are also in the words on a page. Some of the keywords that a search engine might pick out here would be SEO, rich content, page rankings, and more. See if you can pick them out. Some keywords that might be picked up by search engines that are not accurate are META tags, optimized, rich, extreme… These are bad because they are broad and may appear in results for searches that don’t have anything to do with this page. Someone searching for “getting rich easily”, might get this page and only see the keywords they searched for in the description back on the query result page. Now maybe that person will click on a link with bad keywords, but that visitor is going to immediately leave because it’s not what they had searched for. Just think about a time when you searched the internet and got shown inaccurate results…
Page Content
The following is a quote from Google Webmaster Central…
Give visitors the information they’re looking for
Provide high-quality content on your pages, especially your homepage. This is the single most important thing to do. If your pages contain useful information, their content will attract many visitors and entice webmasters to link to your site. In creating a helpful, information-rich site, write pages that clearly and accurately describe your topic. Think about the words users would type to find your pages and include those words on your site. -Google Webmaster Central
Some Important Points to Be Made…
I. Make sure your site is linked together. A logical link structure is a key part in helping search engine “crawlers” scan (or crawl) your pages for keywords and content.
II. Remember that images are great and so are other types of visual media, but search engines can’t read what is in a picture or video. To fix this, a good idea would be to include a description near the object you want to describe. Also; you should definitely include “ALT” attributes on pictures.
III. Look to see that your site is linked to by other sites. If you link to other sites and other sites link to you, then search engines will notice that, and will think your site is popular. This will in turn get you higher up on the search query.
IV. What about purchasing SEO services? As with most things you can do yourself, you can always pay someone else to do it. If this was your plan, you probably wouldn’t be here. But you should know that just because a service claims they can get you to be number one on the results page doesn’t mean anything. It actually means you should avoid that service. Trying to deceive a search engine will only make your site lower and could get it removed totally. In the words of Google, (a warning…)
While legitimate consulting firms can improve your site’s flow and content, others employ deceptive tactics in an attempt to fool search engines. Be careful; if your domain is affiliated with one of these deceptive services, it could be banned from our index. –Google Webmaster Central
Be Patient
As fast as the internet is, things do move slowly believe it or not. The optimization of your site may only take minutes (depending on how big your site is), but waiting for the effects can take weeks. It is important to be patient; your website or blog won’t become an instant hit over night. Remember, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it and you wouldn’t have a chance.
